Typical early features of an early FHC body shell. According to the spare parts book only 1013 LHD and 478 RHD early outer body shells were made. Most significant sign was the more quadratic fuel filler lid. From body no. 886014 and 860479 the outer body remained the same for all S1 cars.
From these 1013 LHD and 478 RHD body shells only 503 LHD and 175 RHD had a flat floor with straight rear balk head. After that 510 early LHD and 303 RHD had the newly introduced heel well but still the straight rear bulk head. This floor type with still the shorter seat runners continued even after the change of outer body style. Meaning that the car numbers 886014 to 886092 and 860479 to 860580 first had the newer outer shape but still using the 2nd type of underframe with heel well but straight rear bulk head. Only with the introduction of the longer seat runners occurring from car 886092 and 860580 the body underframe remained basically unchanged up to end of Series 2. This last change to longer seat runners is also very noticeable in the change to a far shorter luggage extension board.
